[Closed] New Wine Pairing Celebration Menu to Celebrate 10 Years of The Upper House
The Upper House will always have a special place in my heart. I was taken to Café Gray Deluxe, it’s famed restaurant, for my 26th birthday and I thought it was the most beautiful, sophisticated, elegant place I’d ever visited. No matter how many times I’ve been, the hotel still retains its magical allure. It’s a firm favourite with local and international guests, many of whom will want to celebrate its 10 year anniversary starting this month (October).
If you’re looking for an excuse to go back yourself, check out Café Gray’s Wine Pairing Celebration Menu ($1,260 per person). The four-course menu is available for the month of October and each dish is paired with a wine from the 2009 vintage. Here’s a sneak peek at the menu.
Seared Foie Gras and Lentil Salad
Wine pairing: Nyetimber, Classic Cuvee, Brut NV, Sussex, England
Hokkaido Scallops with Oscietra Caviar
Wine pairing: Riesling, S.A. Prüm “Wehlener Sonnenuhr,” Mosel, Germany, 2009
Grilled Red Snapper with Lavender-Chardonnay Jus*
Wine pairing: Chardonnay, Domaine Jean-Michel Gaunoux, Meursault “Gouttes d'Or” 1er Cru, Burgundy, France, 2009 (hands down my favourite … such a unique fruity yet nutty and buttery wine!)
*The other option for the main is a Slow Braised Veal Cheek with Saffron Orzo paired with Merlot Blend, Château Lafleur Gazin, Pomerol, Bordeaux, France, 2009.
Chocolate Delice with Espresso and Ameretto
Wine pairing: Tawny Port, Taylor Fladgate 10 Year, Portugal
Verdict
The food at Café Gray is always elegant and exact, and this Celebration Menu showcases the best of what it does. It’d be just as good for a business lunch as for date night. For those that plan to go with a large group, note that reservations for a table of 10 people or more will receive a complimentary bottle of 1086 Rosé in magnum from British sparkling wine producer Nyetimber.
