Thanking God for Reminding Us to Give Thanks
When life disappoints us, may we see things from God’s perspective. 💥
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Today I reviewed brunch at one of the prettiest spots in town and then came home and felt weird (emotionally). Didn’t expect that. As I lay in bed, it occurred to me to ask God why and he helped me see things from his point of view.
Experiences, achievements, purchases, family, friends, community ... they will disappoint us sometimes because they’re not God. We all know this but sometimes we (or at least I 🙃) need the reminder. God is the only one who can handle the pressure of totally understanding us; he’s also the only one who 100% satisfies.
So on this Sabbath, I pray we are spending extra time with our Savior, being renewed by the Holy Spirit. If any of you are feeling a little funky (including but not limited to misunderstood, judged, under appreciated, overlooked), I’m praying alongside you 🙏 We can go to him with everything, ask for his help (including but certainly not limited to love, wisdom, joy, peace, insight, strength), and he will provide in his perfect way.
I also pray that we’re not letting our feelings diminish any blessings from God. E.g. for me, it might have been a heavy day for various reasons but that shouldn’t take away from the fact that God provided a lovely spot for brunch, a chance to take pretty photos, catch ups with friends, many other things I probably don’t even register. And as I write this, I realized I haven’t even said thank you. Thank you, Lord, from the bottom of my heart.
