'Reasonableness' (Philippians 4:5) as a Type 4

Joyce Meyer graphic art quote by The Yay Project Jenni Lien

Philippians 4 is one of my favourite chapters because it’s so useful for emotional enneagram Type 4s like me. Emotions are great for many things (including creativity!) but when they get negative, we’ve got to learn to swipe them away and meditate on God’s truth so our minds can be renewed. As I was reading 4:5, the word “reasonableness” stood out to me.⁣ *Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; - Philippians 4:5 (ESV)⁣ Once someone complimented me by calling me “reasonable” and it stuck out because a) it wasn’t a word I usually think of and b) it was the first time anyone had ever said that to me haha. And today, I felt God remind me of that situation and gave me healing I didn’t realise I still needed.

Also I looked up different translations and the words gentleness, moderation, considerate, graciousness are used instead of reasonableness. When emotions are flared up, it can be tempting (for me) to get defensive, aggressive, self righteous, etc. But more and more, I’m reminded that wisdom is being reasonable, slow to anger, wise with words. And having that sink in ... meditating on it and asking the Holy Spirit to change my heart was time well spent.⁣

So thankful for slow, Sunday mornings reflecting on a single word in the Bible. Did any words stand out to you as you read the Bible today?⁣ #theyayproject ❤️
