Staycation review: Kerry Hotel, Hong Kong

Trying the 'Millennials Me Time' staycation package

There is no shortage of staycation offers right now and Kerry Hotel in Whampoa has one of the most extensive. From now until 30 September 2020, they’re offering various packages with names such as The Luxe Package, Couples Retreat, A Family Adventure, Millennials Me Time, Girls Night In.

Recently I visited to try their Millennials Me Time package (rates start at $4,200) which includes:

  • Daily breakfast for two

  • Private outdoor yoga class

  • 60-minute massage for two

  • Cocktails at Red Sugar

I checked in on a Friday and the hotel was lively! There were couples, families, groups of friends all around perhaps naturally as they have staycation packages catering to all groups.

Deluxe Sea View Room

Kerry Hotel prides itself on modern, unfussy luxury and the room embodies this well. The furniture, linens and toiletries are all nice but don’t scream luxury. Special touches are included though with complimentary mini bar and welcome treats.

My favourite part was definitely the lounge chair facing the harbour. As an early bird, I woke up at dawn, made coffee from the Nespresso machine in the room, and then journalled while watching the sunrise. Bliss.

The Infinity Pool

This is such a beautiful pool. Again there were friends, couples and loads of young families enjoying pool time. As well as the sun loungers around the pool, they are also set up in various other zones facing the view. That said, you’ll definitely want to claim your spot early as the best ones fill up quickly.

The Spa

Instead of a massage, I opted for the Blue Diamond Brightening Facial (regular price $1,600) and it was one of the loveliest spa experiences I’ve had in Hong Kong. The pre treatment consultation is thorough, ensuring you get the experience you want. Then the beds have a feature where the foot and head areas can be slightly elevated making for an extremely comfortable time. And lastly, my facialist was skilled and thorough. The Blue Diamond option uses products from Hungarian cult beauty brand Omorovicza and includes a traditional Hungarian facial massage (can’t even begin to describe it but my facialist warned me it would be firm and good for firming!).

Cocktails at Red Sugar

Red Sugar have just launched their “Our Little Time” cocktail menu which is inspired by Hong Kong’s post-war era. There are 11 new options dreamed up by mixologist Simon Kong such as Eau De Red Sugar inspired by Two Girls Perfume and Young at Heart topped with edible foam made from strawberry belt candy. This hadn’t launched during my stay but I enjoyed a custom citrus-y cocktail while taking in the view.

Breakfast at The Club

Breakfast was at The Club which is served semi-buffet style. There are counters of pastries, cheeses, cereals, dim sum, and selected hot items. Then guests are able to choose from up to two hot mains each. I love a big breakfast so we tried the lobster eggs benedict, buttermilk pancakes with banana, mushrooms on toast, and dumplings.

The Club itself is a beautiful space with views on all sides. Service is great too so it’s an awesome place to enjoy a slow morning. Big Bay Cafe is now closed for breakfast but I have great memories of their breakfast buffet and the various rich, delicious Southeast Asian flavours. There is laksa on the menu but it would be great to see more options and more unique flavours in the buffet as well.

Verdict

Staying at Kerry Hotel kind of feels like going on vacation. The colours, the vibe, especially the pool take guests away from the hectic, urban grind. It can get busy though so be warned if crowds, kids, and noise aren’t your thing (ask for a room away from Red Sugar). This one seems to already be filling up so book soon to ensure you get to enjoy that infinity pool this summer.
