How To Obey God (According To God)
Ever had a whisper prayer kind of morning?
I always read my bible, pray and journal but some mornings, I feel the need to declare my faith out loud too. There are definitely times when I’m walking around my apartment declaring boldly. But there are also days like today where I’m standing in front of my kettle waiting for the water to boil and just whisper praying, declaring that I know God is good, that his timing is perfect, that his plans are best, that he loves me, that everything he has coming up will be 100% worth waiting for. Maybe it’s because we know it but don’t feel it.
Saying it out loud ignites our faith once again.
As I was praying, I felt God gently encourage me to “Take heart and wait for the Lord” (Psalm 27:14). What a beautiful verse, especially given when a heart feels tender. If you’re feeling tender this morning too, may I encourage you to take heart and wait on our wonderful, merciful, God.
And to feel strengthened, check out these verses from Deuteronomy! It’s the book I’m reading through at the moment, first time reading it front to back, and I am loving it. It’s right before the Israelites are about to enter the Promised Land and Moses is reminding them not to forget who God is and what God has done for them when they enter their blessing (oooh what a good reminder for us too!).
“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul. (Deuteronomy 10:12)
You must fear the Lord your God and worship him and cling to him. Your oaths must be in his name alone. He alone is your God, the only one who is worthy of your praise, the one who has done these mighty miracles that you have seen with your own eyes. (Deuteronomy 10:20-21)
“Be careful to obey all these commands I am giving you. Show love to the Lord your God by walking in his ways and holding tightly to him. (Deuteronomy 11:22)
Amen let us hold tightly (cling!) to God today and every day, loving and serving him with ALL we are like he deserves.
Lord, we will wait for you. We love you so much; help us to show it. Please take us deeper, make our faith stronger, help us linger longer in your presence. Thank you for listening to all of our prayers. In Jesus’s name, we pray this all up to you. Amen.
