Let's Be Friends
![Sipping coffee in bed on a rainy morning, and sensed this lyric come to mind. The song was so familiar, yet I couldn’t place it. A quick Spotify search and boom: What A Friend We Have in Jesus comes up.
I play it, soak in the hymn, and felt God nudge me so sweetly when “all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer” came up. Last night, before I slept, there were a few things that didn’t have me at total peace. They weren’t long-standing things necessarily just the everyday, rubs you kind of the wrong way things, that are better dealt with so resentment, pride, unforgiveness etc. doesn’t start to take root.
Then, unusually (maybe because of the rainstorm!), I also had a dream-packed, kind of restless sleep with reminders of different life stressors. And with this reminder from God, I realized that I really should have gone to him in prayer about it all.
Sometimes we forget, don’t we, how simple God’s commands are.
[Matthew 11:28-30] 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
May this not be something we drag our feet doing but love to do quickly! It’s a privilege and a blessing.
As we go about today, when things hit something in us, may we remember truly what a friend we have in Jesus. In Jesus! There is nothing we can’t handle in him. There is no wound that he can’t heal. There is no miracle he can’t do. Blessed be the name of our Lord. 💖
